Criticism

How criticism related with celebrity in Malaysia with other country?

Criticism between humans is always happening everywhere in worldwide. Critics are about how people look on something and what is their opinion on it, whether it’s good or bad. In Malaysia, majority people give negative comments on something especially on social media compare with the Westerns. Majority Malaysians see things in a negative way by detecting someone’s weaknesses and attack them before they praise them which makes the celebrity needs to create another video clip  to explain about their previous video clip and replay the comments.

I would use a Malaysian young girl, Joyce Chu as an example for this statement. She is a YouTube celebrity from Johor who has nice appearance and has some artistic talent in playing instrument like ukulele. As she’s pretty and many people misunderstood that she is a Korean girl instead of Malaysian, she wrote a song, Malaysia Chabor to make it cleared that she is a Malaysian. So, this is the song :

Malaysia Chabor - Joyce Chu

After the song is published, she faced a social attack about her singing, pronunciations and attitude that force her to close her Facebook page because she couldn't take it yet.

Due to the critics from public especially Malaysian, she decided to create a video clip that specially made to reply public about the comments she received. Here's the video of Joyce Chu's reply for Malaysia Chabor MV:

For the Westerners, they don’t really critics once singing or performance like what Malaysian does because it is very common for them to record a video clip and share it to the public webpages. So, there’re no points for them to checkout one by one and critic them since there’re too much of them. They will comment for the clip about how crazy is the clip or some logic things about the clip like "Oh man, this guy is F crazy.","what the hell is she doing?" instead of scolding the one who is in the video about how ugly or pretty they are or their personality. So, here’s another YouTube celebrity, a Taiwanese American singer, Jason Chen. At first he is a cover singer in YouTube and soon he came out with his own albums.

Thank You - Jason Chen

He doesn't have as many supporters and likes as Joyce Chu has but his singing is very nice and he has lots of positive comments for his songs.

Yeah, so this is the comparison criticism culture I've made between Western and Malaysian. Of course, we all know that not all Malaysians give negative comments and not all westerns give positive comments but still no matter what you do, there’re always people who tries to make things complicated because whatever you do, people always have something negative to say especially in Malaysia. I would say it always happen in Malaysia because they always judge someone’s exterior personality before seeing the inner and they jealous about what people have and they can’t get it - HATERS GONNA HATE.

  1. I agree with your point, quite interesting point. Malaysian are more criticism on those artist or youtubers, they like to bring out all the negative things of one particular celebrity and share it out. This is like a trend in Malaysia now as they like to find out all the famous peoples that they dont really like it and dig out all their old photos and make comparison with the current photos.

  3. After reading about your article, I found out that you mention some of the malaysian are more against the celebrity latest style, fashion, or way they promote about their self as a celebrity and it quite true I must say if you compare the malaysian attitude with the other state people.
